Rattlesnake Mountain Car To Car

Pam, Garry and I hiked Rattlesnake Mountain from the west trailhead off of Exit 27 on I-90 to the Rattlesnake Lake Trailhead off of Exit 32. We had been trying to set up a car-to-car hike there for a while.

The trail rises up out of the parking area steadily for most of the first 4 miles which takes you to Grand Prospect. With no snow on the trail it was a fast trip to the overlook - a little under 1 1/2 hrs. We snacked and continued on up to the ridgeline.

From there it is up and down, but mainly flat until you start heading down towards Rattlesnake Ledge and the Lake. There was some hard ice on the trail out to Windy Landing, but otherwise nothing to report.

As we got to the ledge area the trail became very busy with lots of unprepared looking hikers coming up. We made the descent to the other trailhead in just under 4 hours total and the GPS showed 10.7 miles and 2860 feet of elevation gain.

Our goal for this year is 600 miles and 150,000 of elevation gain so we now have 589.3 miles and 147,140 feet to go.

Be very well and more soon...
