The walk to the trailhead is through a fantastic old growth forest that is great for photographers because it has a unique light due to the height of the trees and the nearby hills. There are tons of nurse logs that are now fodder for dozens of new plants and occasionally a new tree.
The trail to Ranger Falls is only a mile once you get to the trailhead and Green Lake is only an additional 8/10s of a mile beyond the falls. They are both HUGE payoffs for hikers with great opportunities for picture taking.
We ran into snow at about 2400 feet that became more persistent as we hiked closer to the lake. It was good walking snow that didn't require any traction devices. We arrived at Green Lake and were treated to fantastic views.
The entire hike was 10.36 miles with 1623 feet of elevation gain so it is suitable for beginners, but the views make it a must do even for those of us who like to burn our thighs on big elevation gain hikes.
